Doménico Marcantonio, EIT

§1Background

Doménico Marcantonio grew up in Bairdford, an unincorporated cluster in northern Allegheny County, PA — coal-and-railroad country on the way to Butler. His grandfather worked as a switchman for the Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railway through its absorption into the B&O and then the Chessie System; his father is a third-generation millwright at a still-operating valve-and-fittings foundry near Pittsburgh. The family moved north to Erie in 2010 when his mother (a school-district business manager) took the same role with the Millcreek Township School District.

He attended Penn State Behrend on a state STEM scholarship, graduating BSEE 2022 with concentration in power engineering. His senior project, supervised by Margaret Trzaska in her adjunct role, was a Hioki PQ3198 deployment-procedure study for power-quality surveys at small commercial buildings; the work became part of the firm’s standing R-04 deployment protocol the following year. Doménico stayed with the firm part-time through his senior year and was offered full-time EIT status in August 2023.

He is bilingual (English/Italian — both families maintained the language across two generations of immigration), single, lives in an apartment on State Street walking-distance to the bay, and runs the bay’s Wednesday-evening D&D session.

§2Practice focus

Doménico’s current role is on the deployment end of the firm’s instrument-heavy Protocols — R-04 (harmonic surveys), R-05 (voltage immunity), and R-06 (grounding/bonding). EIT-rated work in Pennsylvania is conducted under the immediate supervision of a PE and his name does not appear on sealed reports independently; his contributions to the firm’s sealed work appear as exhibit-contributor attributions and in chain-of-custody signatures.

His specialty area in development is marine electrical work — partly through the firm’s growing R-06 docket on Erie’s waterfront and partly through his personal interest in working sailboats. He led the post-2024-198-incident audit of the Presque Isle State Park marina’s 116 pedestals under Dr. Trzaska’s direction; the audit became part of his pre-PE experience documentation submitted to the State Board in October 2025.

He is the firm’s primary CAD operator. The firm’s sealed-report exhibit drawings — one-line diagrams, scene sketches, distribution-system schematics — are produced on AutoCAD Electrical 2024 with Adobe Illustrator finishing; Doménico is the engineer at the chair for the majority of those drawings. The exhibit drawings in CF-2025-071 and in CF-2024-198 are his work.

§3PE pursuit

Doménico is scheduled to sit the Pennsylvania PE examination on 15 October 2026, with the power-systems depth track. Per the PA State Board for PEs’ current rules, four years of post-BS experience under a PE’s direct supervision is the minimum; the firm’s formal mentoring track is structured to give EITs 4.2 years of documented experience by the end of the second full calendar year, accommodating the scheduling of the PE examination immediately at the four-year mark.

His PE experience documentation, when complete, will include: substantial deployment-level experience under all of R-04, R-05, R-06; CAD support on virtually every sealed file the firm has closed since August 2023; participation in scene visits under R-01 and R-02 (in observation status, with the PE on scene leading); participation in deposition preparation for two matters where he was named as an exhibit contributor. The portfolio is sufficient under the PA Board’s 2018-edition Experience Self-Evaluation rubric.

Once licensed, Doménico will take a lead role on R-04 deployment matters (freeing Trzaska for analysis-heavy R-05 and R-06 work) and will be on the second-position rotation for R-08 (carrier-facing subrogation support). The firm has no formal plan to expand staffing beyond his transition; the current case-load is at capacity with four engineers and would not warrant a fifth.

• Standing R-04 deployment protocol. Co-author with Dr. Trzaska, based on his senior project at Behrend. Now the firm’s standing protocol for Class A power-quality analyzer deployment.
